Singapore Airlines is the king of long-haul flight. Not only do they fly the world’s longest route, but they’ve done so for quite some time. It first started non-stop service to New York - a mission that spans 19 hours - back in 2004. And when it did so, it beat the previous record by a whopping 1400 miles.
Of course, the world has changed dramatically in the 20 years since, and demand for long-haul travel has grown rapidly. In fact, 9 out of the 10 longest flights today debuted within the last decade. And yet, Singapore’s New York service remains untouched atop the list.
Now, their reign hasn’t been an accident; flying ultra-long-missions is incredibly challenging. So, what’s made the carrier so successful? What’s allowed Singapore Airlines to not only claim - but hold onto the record - for the world’s longest flight? Let me explain…

I suggest you stop making videos on China.Because you are failing to understand what China represent. China are concerned with implementing programmes and policies that will resonate with the personality of their people. They are concerned with with always solving problems to benefit their country. That is what any serious country with good leadership does. The C919's efficiency and effectiveness is your own opinion. You know nothing about C919. Why will anyone make comments about something they know nothing about? STOP STOP STOP! This propaganda will not work

American airline companies are the most cheap folks, they continue to use 767 to europe, 787(nightmare liner) and 777-200 to India for 14 hours of hell, with only one meal and a sandwich before landing, and the galley has plenty of water and pretzels for those who are hungry. All in all heavenly experience, where you are pleading with the gods to end this flight

I'll never fly on a Boeing even if i get a free ticket to fly on it. Its systems are so dangerous even for pilots, namely MCAS (737 max crashes), Communication suite (B777-MH370- missing till today without a trace), Navigation-(B777- MH17 autopilot deviant from path and got shot down) and lets not forget about manufacturing quality (B787-even Boeings employee swears by how dangerous it is)

All good and well said Mate, how do you survive for 18 hours in a chair, even if its premium economy, its still not lie flat bed, just can't. I understand and appreciate the effort and work by Singapore airlines, but still can't justify how are you going to sleep or stay awake for 18 hours in a chair/ premium economy seat even with all the healthy food and movies. Would like to know your thoughts.

I flew between Singapore and New York return several times, when the first non-stop flights commenced. It was then that I began to view my flights as a real part of my overall travel experience. I now look forward to long haul as another delightful time, being pampered and enjoying the whole package, is now an essential part of my life.

  • @gelinrefira

Lol you people are really afraid, aren't you. The most salient point anyone should be taking from the introduction of C919 is the fact that China, which has the largest manufacturing capacity and some of the best technological know-how has finally build a commercial airliner. This means that the western duopoly is now in danger of ceding market share and even being threaten by a newcomer. This is not bombardier from Canada or Embraer from Brazil. This is Cormac from CHINA, which is the only country that can take on the entire west in any arena, and win. C919 is not selling outside of China. But then neither was Chinese phones, EVS, solar panels, and even semiconductors, and a whole slew of stuff that the west have always thought that their dominance is unassailable. It is only a matter of time that comac will produce an airliner that has all the characteristics that airline companies desire and able to produce it faster, and cheaper than Boeing and Airbus. This is just the first step and every time China boldly steps into a new industry previously dominated by the west, we get videos like this saying ohh no one buys their product blah blah blah. 5, 10, 20 years down the road, they all shut up. You will eat your words.

I've done a few ultra-long itineraries. Round trip of Bahrain to Boston via LHR, an open-jaw consisting of NRT-AMS before returning LHR-KIX-HND, and a round trip of SEA-LHR non-stop. I have to say that the single, long direct flight is generally the less painful option. Once it's done, it's done but having a second leg, no matter if its long or short after one very long leg, is just brutal.

In February, I took United Flight 101, IAH-SYD (about 17 hours on a 787-9) and Singapore Flight 22, SIN-EWR about 18 hours in the A350-ULR) both in lie-flat Business Class. This was for an exceptional vacation. Both flights were surprisingly comfortable and enjoyable. Food was better on Singapore then United (lobster thermidor vs. chicken fricassee) and Singapore had 2 1/2 meal services vs. United's 1 1/2. The flight crews were both wonderful in different ways - United's warm, informal Texas crew vs Singapore's elegant and super-professional staff. The latter appeared as if from nowhere to help, if I even looked like I was trying to find something. Both flights departed at night - the United flight at 10:30p Eastern time and the Singapore flight at 12:30a Singapore time. I think this helped with the adjustment - my body wanted to sleep during the early part of each flight.

You should redo this video. Some of what you reported here isn't entirely accurate. There are also some glaring omissions. It's also beyond ironic that you're doing a quality comparison between a company with no reported misfires vs Boeing and Airbus which are constantly in recent news for structural failures and crashes. The Chinese are on to something big with this. All they need are a few tweaks and they will eventually surpass both Boeing and Airbus with design and cost-efficiency.

The GE9X is the largest turbofan, but not the most powerful. That title remains with the GE9X's predecessor, the GE90-115B which is rated for 115,300lbs of thrust. The GE9X is only rated for around 110,000lbs.

longest time in an aircraft was during covid flying return ULD (cargo) flights from Nadi Fiji to LAX... two sets of flight crew... land in LAX, offload cargo then second crew takeover then we're off again... we would be in the aircraft for average 22-24 hours... did that about twice a month for a year and a half... then the quarantine after each of those... dont miss those at all but good experience to have gone through it
